Talk on deep belief networks for doppler invariant demodulation - IEEE APWCS

PhD student Abigail Leon from the AMAAI lab presented a paper at the 16th IEEE Asia Pacific Wireless Communications Symposium (APWCS) on "Doppler Invariant Demodulation for Shallow Water Acoustic Communications Using Deep Belief Networks".

Talk at One-North Festival on Music and AI: Generating Music and More!

I'll be giving an invited talk on Music and AI: Generating Music and More!, coming Friday at the One-North Festival. The one-north Festival is an annual celebration of research, innovation, creativity and enterprise. Jointly organised by the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) and JTC, and supported by Science Centre Singapore, this very exciting event welcomes the public to immerse in science and technology through fun interactive displays, inspiring talks, workshops and tours for the whole family.

ISMIR in Suzhou, China - presenting hit prediction through social media listening behaviours

Last week the National University of Singapore hosted the International Society for Music Information Retrieval conference in lovely Suzhou, China. It featured a ton of interesting presentations by established academics in the field including Prof. Elaine Chew (who also talked about MorpheuS), Roger Dannenberg and others; but also industry leaders such as Jeffrey C. Smith (Smule) and E. Humprey (Spotify).

An online system for visualising audio-and score based features

A few weeks ago, Prof. Ching-Hua Chuan (University of North Florida) presented a system that we have developed together called IMMA at the IEEE International Conference on Semantic Computing in San Diego. IMMA is a multi-modal interface that shows both audio and score-based features of a performance and score in sync. The current version implements a module for tension, different modules are expected to be implemented soon. Check out a demo or read more.

Research visit to Singapore at A*STAR and IEEE TENCON

Last week I was in Singapore to present the MorpheuS research I have performed on my Marie-Curie grant at IEEE TENCON. The title of my talk was "MorpheuS: Automatic music generation with recurrent pattern constraints and tension profiles". I was also invited to give a seminar on "Machine learning and optimization applied to digital music" at the High Performance Computing Institute at A*STAR in Singapore. A short abstract of the talk at A*STAR:

ZiF Workshop From Computational Creativity to Creativity Science

This week I am attending the ZiF Workshop in Bielefeld, Germany. This interesting workshop is bringing together both computer scientists and cognitive scientists to come to a joint view and approach on computational creativity.

From Computational Creativity to Creativity Science

Date: 19 - 22 September 2016
Convenors: Kai-Uwe Kühnberger (Osnabrück, GER), Emilios Cambouropoulos (Thessaloniki, GRE), Oliver Kutz (Bozen, ITA)

Talk and performance of MorpheuS Hadyn at TENOR, Cambridge (UK)

Today I gave a talk at TENOR, The Second International Conference on Technologies for Music Notation and Representation in Cambridge (UK). There were many interesting session on the latest music represenatation technologies. My presentation focused on the tonal tension model, which I have developed together with Elaine Chew, and how this is implemented in the polyphonic music generation algorithm called MorpheuS.

MCM2015 - Mathematics and computation in music conference, London

I will present a paper written by Matteo Balliauw, Dorien Herremans, Daniel Palhazi Cuervo and Kenneth Sörensen on "Generating fingerings for polyphonic piano music with a tabu search algorithm" at MCM2015:

The Fifth Biennial International Conference on Mathematics and Computation in Music (MCM2015) will be held on 22-25 June-2015 at Queen Mary University of London in the United Kingdom. MCM is the flagship conference of the Society for Mathematics and Computation in Music, whose official publication is the Journal of Mathematics and Music.

ORBEL29 - Antwerp is hosting the annual Belgian Operations Research Conference

This year, the ANT/OR group organises the ORBEL conference. ORBEL29 is the 29th conference on Operations Research (OR), reuniting the Belgian research community on OR-related topics. ORBEL29 is about exchanging ideas and insights, by stimulating interaction and discussion. The host institution of this year's conference is the University of Antwerp. This vivid city is located on the banks of the River Scheldt, and home to one of the largest seaports in the world. The name Antwerp is synonymous with diamonds, culture, art, Rubens and fashion.
